Buffalo LinkStation Mini is fully charged in Network Attached Storage device (NAS) with a lot of interesting features and options. The only downside is that you pay more per GB than the equivalent, but for home use of the extra money you spend is worth it.
HARDWARE LinkStation Mini, with a thin Ethernet cable and power supply. Bricks and food is one of the less coverage I’ve seen and cord. Both agree well with the theme of the Mini appliance.
LinkStation unit itself is incredibly small. There are two laptop hard drives, the size of the black box. If you have a number of partners have ventilated the Ethernet interface, USB interface, power connector, and an on-off-automatic switch back to some small LED lights on the front. Stylish black jacket with blue LED design allows you to put it in the living room, office or bedroom – especially when the unit is not a fan, virtually zero noise.
INSTALLATION LinkStation Mini includes the installation CD on your computer (s). Only one pop album, simple instructions, and you can connect your LinkStation to a router and a computer (s) can drag, drop and copy files to it, no problem. If this is all I want to do, just basic computer skills in this set. As an aside, LinkStation Mini is a USB port, but it is not directly used by the USB connection on the computer, because you can only read / write files on the LinkStation via an Ethernet cable. The USB port is for USB drives to add to LinkStation later.
If you want to use some advanced features, you need a mid-level and advanced networking skills to determine LinkStation. If you have Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) router up steps can easily, but my router is not UPnP LinkStation. This is probably because I am a cheap-O, free DSL Router Combo unit’s own Internet service provider. I had to go through and advanced networking features to be installed by hand. So if you do not know what terms like UPnP, port forwarding, DLNA, FTP and SSL, you probably have a difficult time with all the advanced functions without assistance in the computer geek.
availability and characteristics of the
In the heart LinkStation is a NAS or networked hard disk. The advantage is that the number of home computers can all be used to transfer a single disc instead of a USB hard drive to another computer. Two laptop-size hard drive in a single unit can be set to be used as a continuous, 500 GB hard drive, or a mirror between the two 250 GB hard drives constantly back each other up. You can also switch back all the time, place all the time, or switch automatically when the computer is using the LAN network. After the basic functionality, you can use the LinkStation to many fun things to do.
If you have a static IP address of the LinkStation can open the gates and setting FTP. My DSL provider gives me a dynamic IP address, so I have to the long-term success can set. However, Buffalo is a site that supplies free peer-to-peer connection with the LinkStation from around the world, as long as you access the Internet. You need to open some ports on the router, but it works very well in dealing with photos and music files. The site will also open the music files in the Adobe Flash environment, complete with MP3 playback, so you can play music directly from a Web page with no computer in the world to download files. Peer-to-peer site takes little time to download, but works very well, especially if the group of 50 images or less in a separate folder.
You can also use the LinkStation as a DLNA server movies, music and photos. I was able to an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 the LinkStation and the music and videos available directly from the disk. Together with the Remote Play feature, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP) in my LinkStation Mini and surround receiver, I use the PSP as a remote on the screen to browse and play my entire music collection on my stereo system – all without the Starting the computer or my TV. It points to the Sonos or Squeezebox player house. Very, very cool feature if you already LinkStation game computers.
software that comes with installation CD, you can easily find it by clicking the icon on the desktop, network shared folders on the Mini. It also offers a special way to the settings of the Mini. It is available under the program, Memeo, and help you plan a Back up files to the computer and the LinkStation.
problems and disadvantages, only drawbacks are the price and speed. Since there are two 5400-rpm notebook hard drives, compact unit, it is slightly slower than the larger units (with fans) that 7200rpm hard drives. But speed is not so bad. RAID 0 configuration ( “one of the” continuous 500 GB hard drive) I could 500MB the transfer of files from different LinkStation about 1 minutes. to the needs of my house, this is a sufficient speed. You can also pay more dollars GB LinkStation Mini in comparison to other units there. Therefore, if you put the work in the office, I could choose a cheaper, faster NAS.
OVERALL Personally I think LinkStation Mini is a good and fits my needs perfectly. It is good that the office / work environment, but all home, because: 1) there is very little electricity in the sink, so you can leave all the time, 2) it is not a fan, so it makes almost no noise, 3) a nice Vista, XP and Mac, and 4) you will be very difficult to find so many useful features of the NAS as a small package. I highly recommend it.

It is large – small, fast, quiet, can be configured to support 250 gig RAID Gigabit, is the Mac support, auto shut-off green space. Killer anti-sales information. If you have money, they also offer a 1TB version. I will install the software (but I’ve heard that the software is worthy).
Device is quiet, even copying files. It’s smaller than I expected (slightly larger than two stacked iPhone), you can easily carry it with you if necessary. The options on this unit is great, especially their two 250 gig disks, which can be configured as RAID. The unit will identify one 500 gig storage, but using the web interface is easy to configure and 250 gig failsafe RAID config. The device can be a number of common shared folders and create individual public read only public read / write rights to individual users or shared folders security. It is the user management, you can create an unlimited number of user IDs / passwords and assign permissions to each user, so the read-only or read-write access and shared folders they have access.
this price you can not find a reliable NAS product, which is quiet, there are two hard drives, Gigabit LAN, users, and all those other features. Some of the cheaper products, and they are bad reviews.

Installing the program took some time. But the work described.
biggest problem is the WebAccess GUI (graphical user interface). Very poorly designed and very slow. When a “Preview” is the image, which is about 3 MB, 5-7 seconds to take a photo display. When you get a picture of the preview mode you can click Next (if you have more than one picture), and it takes 5-7 seconds on the site.
Thumbnail preview not available, or if your file names look like (jpg DSC_0041.).
It is a “multimedia” feature, which I have not tried yet. It may be that it gives me a small image.
NAS itself is a Web-based management, which can be used if the computer on the same subnet (private) on a computer, but I could not use external (public) with from WebAccess.
support tried to call, because I had a few questions. Automated system told me that the engineers were working and the better it is for an email. Because I wanted to live representative. to see if they know their product ended up waiting on the phone. Hours, no one picked up, so I listened to music on hold “Mozart”, which puts me to sleep. No joke.
One thing to add a badly written WebAccess GUI. Once you have logged in the files that can not unsubscribe because there is no button to do that. You must close the browser is logged.

I had a network storage device storing files that are scanned multi-function printer and I need a USB print server on a higher-color printer. I also wanted the device works very quiet and has the capacity for RAID 1 (disk mirroring for data protection). After a little research on this product seemed an appropriate invoice. My experience is over.
1) This is a very small unit, there is not much bigger than the two laptop hard drives, includes, and it works very slowly. No fan, no hard to get votes. Nothing. This was just as I was led to expect.
2) The wiring of the switch, which led me to the wireless gateway, walked to the detection routine. This is where I was not the only problem I had with this device. It simply does not recognize your network, when connected to a switch. I had to run the cable directly to the gateway, not a big deal, but it made me a little nervous. Is it not from outside the right foot.
3) Now, I can achieve on its network, I changed the 500GB RAID-0 configuration 250GB RAID 1 configuration. This allows two drives mirror data so if one fails, you will not lose everything. Built-in Web server and the device is easy to achieve.
4) When the Link Station was connected to the gateway instead of the transition I was able to use the software on my all three of Buffalo’s network systems without a hitch. I’ve set up some shared folders with no problem, and a network share scanner, again without problems.
5) At this point I plugged my USB printer cable to the USB port on the back of the unit and was pleasantly surprised how easy the print functions do not work. All you have to do is right-click on the “LP” LinkStation share and select “Connect”. After installation, the printer drivers for all my 3 computers, they can print to my USB Color LaserJet previously been assigned to only one device. Given that most print servers only costs $ 80 – $ 100, making the LinkStation much for anyone who needs a Network Storage and the network printer. Although I do not use the USB port can also be used to a separate hard drive for storage to be added.
6) The last thing I wanted to do the unit was activated in WebAccess software, a web browser so I could use from any computer (outside my network) to the selected component reach. Buffalo, the service [. . . ], Who will forward the requests directly to the NAS device. This was the only hiccup I had during installation, because I’m completely new wireless gateway that is UPnP-compliant, not necessarily what the Buffalo NAS is expected to do. Anyway, I had the car remove-install “self-selection and forward port 9000 to my Link station. When it was finished, the device is accessible from outside the system.
Overall impression: This device is packed and the effect of such a modest price. I knew when buying a system, its use 5400rpm laptop drive would not be as fast as most other NAS, but accidentally (when I bought the device), I saw a review that tested speed access times of the various entities and Network Storage LinkStation Mini accumulates in the top 50%. This was surprising, therefore, a compromise of silence and low power consumption does not much compromise. LinkStation Mini did everything I wanted (disk mirroring, print, make very quiet), so I give it a big thumbs up.

Have used this unit about one months and has shown very good performance and moving your data and reading files
March 11, 2010, 9:23 pmI was a little worried about the comments on performance, but so far is good been the second concern I had was to support Linux, even if your document is that they lack the support I was able to read / transfer info to my Ubuntu-8. 04
