I have a lot of files on my hard disk and the CPU must support them in an external hard drive. But now my CPU hard drive is beginning to completely change. I want to delete files. How reliable is the external drive?

let me clarify, by “CPU hard drive” i assume you mean the master drive that you have your OS installed on? your CPU is part of your processor, so dont confuse the two.

an external hard drive is only as reliable as the disk thats inside it. if it has a seagate or a western digital inside it then it should last you 5-10 years providing you dont ride it too hard.

other brands like maxtor may bug out on you 3-4 years down the line

external hard drive not the CD/DVD drive correct?

the more popular brands are very reliable.
if your questioning how safe your files are i suggest spending some time on researching backup software in case it does die on you

They are as good as your pc drive, but like all electronic equipment, they, too are fallible. Popularity of brand is a good factor but go to a “consumer guide” to see about features and functions for what you want.
