Summary This is a very small, special-purpose Linux box. The unit seems physically very sturdy, is relatively small, and is quiet and cool. It is a factory-installed version of Twonky, and the media server to use than wired Ethernet it worked – as it was HD video encoded to 25Mbps CBR (Constant Bit Rate ie from Sony HDV Cam) My Ziova CS505 Media Player without apparent problems (3 1 / 2 stars for this). Edmini performance when writing files to the Ethernet cable was IMO not great – the best I write speed test using a crossover cable to a 3Com Gigabit Ethernet PC board, was about 640MB per minute (unlike Maxtor SS II, originally 800 MB per minute to write passages from the Netgear switch and that, because I have optimized more than 990 megabytes per minute, and the other tests I have changed as much as 2600MB per minute over my home network). The installation is very easy for me. I followed the Quick Installation Guide (which basically says: “Before you drive, put the software and follow the instructions”), and after a few minutes I was up and running. I have my laptop connected directly to first clear the mess, then connected to my Wireless-G router. Each time, the Mini-disc appeared as a network drive.
Now I have a set of “My Documents” for more than 2 PC and laptop. All my music and videos are the Mini Disc, and them directly to my computer without it copied to a local hard disk. I saw a few seconds longer to start the video, but they play like a local disk.
I’ve tried to backup and recovery software for fun and it seems to work, as described, but I did not use my Mini Disk for back-ups, so I There is not much experience.
Perhaps the disk is not fast enough to edit these files from the network (for some other basis), but less than $ 200 you a good amount of storage, multimedia and personal files .

Excellent product and great value. We were always creating our own shares, a notebook and desktop, where children can their lesson and we can document, photos, music sharing, etc. This device is a complete solution. Set up was not as easy as I had hoped, however, LaCie, it was surprising the customer support available via telephone. I do not know what is good and customer support, and I did no more than 2 minutes waiting for someone to go to the phone.
car works well and easily stream HD content on a media adapter. Do not know why the other reviewer is to appeal against the transfer of speads. This is version 2, Gigabit Ethernet. Typical read / write speads through the network, which does not come as fast as a USB or Firewire. Overall an excellent run of money.
