This is a newer version of the previous model, which is very similar (301827U LaCie d2 Quadra 1TB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2 0 external hard drive). I spoke with the seller, J & R Computer and he told me the only difference is that this model has a 32MB cache and an older model has 16MB cache. The older model has more than 100 reviews so you can too.

    COST:

It costs more than some other external hard drives, same capacity, but it is a good reason: You pay a certain interfaces (eSATA, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and a daisy chain, USB 2 0), and full of cables that come with it. ESATA support is 3Gbits compared with 1 5Gbits cheaper stations. A well-built case, you can also some costs. I would like to think that the album is also a higher quality, do nothing to assess.

drive but works fine for about one months time.

It feels very sturdy. It is heavier than other external drives that I know.

is only slightly warm to the touch when running. All-metal construction and the outside backs seem to do a good job keeping it cool.

It is very quiet. Where does the blue light, I would say it was. Even if I do the ear, I hear very little. Even if he is active in actually looking for the quiet. It is not a fan.

It is some noise when starting or closing. I think that one sounds I hear is the heads parking and unparking.

I use it as a USB-2. 0 device now. I have an eSATA card to order and will again, so you know how it goes. UPDATE: drive works fine when connected via eSATA. I have done nothing to the performance of experiments.

It is a place behind one of the Kensington slot. I do not see this mentioned in sales literature, but also other external drive manufacturers big deal about it. There are many of these slots available, especially when one takes into account the cloning. It is probably the next best: 64343 Kensington MicroSaver DS Notebook Computer Lock with Keys (PC / Mac).

Yes, one thing. Blue light makes me think of HAL in 2001 Space Odyssey, HAL was not just the red eyes.

I would like to make this a better rating. But this is the best I can do.

bought this LaCie less than 1 5 years ago. Turn it on, connected and worked fine in my Mac. It uses the backup drive, and place to store larger files. And all worked well in 1 5 years.

About 5 weeks ago, my internal HD show no direct, so over to the LaCie until their successors are obtained. In the meantime, life happened, and it took me four weeks of the exchange. Received a replacement on Thursday, but when I went to replace the internal status on Friday, LaCie has decided that it no longer wanted to cooperate. The blue light came, a part of the disc is played for a few seconds, but nothing happens.

Both the local dealers and the LaCie headquarters believe that a diet (Note: Nutritional problems are not an isolated event in their LaCies). So hopefully I have not lost anything except time and patience. And they have agreed to give me a new power adapter, warranty. However, the local reseller or LaCie Power Supply HQ is in stock. Can be found in at least 2-4 weeks to wait. And because I’m currently in the country, shipping is at my expense.

If you status or the equivalent, buy yourself a back-up power. Do it now. The reason you can save your own.

got a new LaCie power adapter connected and the best of hope. And it worked. About 6 weeks. Several problems, and the LaCie sent me back a new diet. I bought another power supply and backup. (The numbers 3 and 4), but unfortunately it was not intended at this time. Power # 3 and # 4 gave me the same results as disastrous Power Supply # 2 So that probably means that an internal drive electronics housing itself. It is unlikely that power. Continue with my mind to save, I will probably drag the disk from the enclosure and install in another.

If I could, I would review a change. But it seems there are two stars too many.

I finally have a LaCie hard drive. This is a well-made device – it is a solid, heavy construction and stylish appearance.

I was relieved that the light is a pleasant shade of blue and not quite clear, unlike the other hard drive LED lights are blindingly bright.

This position will not shut up, even though it’s pretty quiet. I can clearly hear the station starts several feet away, but it is not disturbing. The man who said he did not hear the ear next to it, a station is not running at the moment.

I use it as a Time Machine backup disk. FireWire 400 connector on the old G5 iMac is supported by 270 GBs of less than 5 hours. At the beginning of the Time Machine backup is dog slow. Then I disable the memory of viruses, and especially, I have changed my Spotlight preferences, select the Privacy tab and add my backup drive to Spotlight indexing / searching. After the backup process just flew!

When the information for 5 hours by car was a warm but not hot. Aluminum heat sink to cool the case appears to do good.

At the end I will add to an Apple Airport Extreme USB drive to use for wireless network using my laptop. Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme wireless router have Firewire 400/800-yhteys – only slower, an Ethernet or USB 2. 0. I will provide updates of performance at that time.

All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase.

    We circumstances:
    – bought this with my wife a new puppy Amazon (2009), Mac Mini, which we recently purchased.
    – puts the Amazon at night for only $ 3. A premium of more than 99 free shipping and it came well packaged and on time.
    – While we completed the Mini is a small model, but with 1 GB of RAM and a 120GB internal HD, the next model, a 320 GB drive and includes 2 GB of RAM, and pay $ 200 more had the same features! I’ve also updated the memory than $ 45 bought this LaCie d2 drive is $ 153 and now 1 12TB Apple Mac Mini much less than the space of only “upgrade” model – especially as the element of the tax savings!

    Advantages:
    – quality! It feels really well made and good quality 3-way on / off / auto switch, a good reference point for the ports – and this is the key for me – * 4 * All cables that you might need – USB-2 . 0, eSATA and two FireWire 400 & 800 – rare! And. . . are all reasonable (ie, none of these 7-inchers also produces approximately CHEAPO). Very heavy and certainly not what you need to be taken casually, esp. Power brick for the necessary (though very smart, and a brick!). I regard this as a positive desktop applications.
    – Shut up! It is and follow it is hardly noticeable. Much, * much * quieter than such Fantom 250GB external drive I have a Windows machine.
    – Cool! Thick, heavy aluminum frame and a ribbed fan. . . pretty much hollowed n “substantial heat sink, which was barely warm after our 90GB of data transfer … as fast or faster than the internal drive … and therefore faster than the USB bus-powered 250GB Western Digital drive I had addicted in the past, we now connected by the high quality of the FW 800 cable. BTW: The development of the Mac was a complete no brainer … plugged in and asked if we want to optimize it for Mac or Windows / Linux … with one push, and after about one minutes … Voila! Ready to rock! Moreover – and this is a very important part of a greener Mac owners – this is a reliable car to drive-off and then to swing back quickly if you wake up the Mac, apparently some of the currently available Mac-friendly so-called “Western Digital drives do not power down and automatically backed up, especially when connected to a FireWire (check reviews!) .
    – over! Will be around 936GB, the usual. . . not sure what to do with all that space, then tried the Time Machine feature in Leopard launch, no problems.
    – clever! Brushed aluminum exterior is an improvement of sharp edges / scratches and very close to the game with the Mini, although the grants do not quote another, slightly aggressive atmosphere.

    Cons:
    – Cost. . . and this is only a minor gripe. . . At Newegg and Amazon these days, you can easily find 1TB drives less than one hundred U.S. dollars, but true, they are all models of Quad interface cables and backup software – and perhaps more importantly, has not received a positive assessment of the role of the collection.
    – Reliability? Too early to tell. . . is hope for the best, but so far no sign of It’s gonna byte ‘the dust! And if it does not. . . Well, C’est LaCie! (heh!)

    Summary:
I highly recommend this drive. . . especially for those of you, eSATA and FireWire 800 ports, all that will benefit from an extra lane and / or for those of you, there is a Mac, who – like me – * really * easy to appreciate the experience.

    ~

UPDATE 1/1/2010: Three months without any problems – is still a lot quieter than the Tiger turned Escalade fast, faster than he runs away from sponsors and more reliable than the coverage of the applicant on his front nine. . . “Cie Ya!

I bought this brand new, and stopped working about thirty days later, and I had not even had some really used it yet, because it was bought for some of the shots I made rescue, and they are not made. So that the practice not only started working on the computer is turned on.

I called LaCie and then I was told that I should have sent back at my expense, and all they only try to repair it (certainly) Refurb or replace ( of course they do). So, now it directly, they are defective, broken down by spam, the product I was stupid enough to a new, they want to make the CAP more than I have to pay to return them only to be replaced by buying a Refurb?! Western Digital, at least send a replacement. In summation of LaCie Customer Service is horrible and a real disservice. I will never buy another LaCie product manager, and it would be very happy to go out of business.
