Western Digital 500GB external hard drive Mac unboxing. I have 250GB that I can use Time Machine, but my internal 160GB drive is full. So now I’m using the new WD 500GB drive to back up both the internal 160GB and 250GB external hard disk, Time Machine. I called Apple to see if we could upgrade my internal HD, and they said it would be my warranty. She suggested I buy an external HD to their website, but I got this 500 GB HD Mac Walmart. com only $ 95. Apple suggested that I backup to a 500GB HD 250GB HD without first connected. I do this now as I write this and let it takes about 4 hours. Then they said to a 250GB HD and reconnect using Disk Utility is ready for storage. Time Machine backup drive is connected to any external standard.
