12 I bought an external USB drives, both of the characters. Seagates more than WD’s. I just returned from two of these I bought yesterday, and now there is no WD comes to my house, after finding that I can not remove WD Smart Ware. laptop running WD Smart Ware is approximately three years and includes a single-core chip. Well, I noticed that this software is a resource pig. WD Ware Smart advertising that always runs in the background to back up all files as they change. The compromise is that the underlying service SmartWare routinely 95% -100% CPU spikes, where one of the main Windows computer on her knees. It’s just not worth it.
At the end I removed the entire Smart Ware laptop (1 TB drive is still available, but the Windows XP Device Manager, an unknown device selected), and built a back-up every day using the free Comodo Backup software.
WD SmartWare is not even good for beginners, unless they are present, computers can handle one hours MULTICORE Spike hours CPU time for this service. I really stumbled with this WD product.

This VCD is used almost SmartWare 1GB drive. A drop in the ocean, yes, but I dislike being told how my store for Western Digital.
In addition to that it works and is quite well built. My only complaint is that during the power adapter and plug the USB cable rather little slack behind the station when they are related, and are prone to fall, when do you move too much.
Otherwise a good hard drive.

This station is like any other drive I ever bought. When you connect to the system, it forces the Virtual CD (VCD) on the top of the operating system, which can not be removed from the user. This is GARBAGE! This role is returned. I’ve never heard of such an absurd idea than this. There is nothing on the packaging indicates that this position of the operating system will take. This feature is burned in the drive firmware?
Worst idea I’ve seen in 10 years.
UPDATE 12-2-09 after the removal of my drive and restoring it. We tried to remove my wife’s Mac tower. It took 3 hours for this snub WD software, which is contaminated by its OS / X system. I can not believe that Western Digital could not dispose of any Mac user on the planet ten kilometers from here.
Western Digital drive and other makers for some time to see, put a stick of software packages to install an external hard drive that they sell, but it is always stored in the root drive where it can be deleted or removed when the drive is formatted – in the worst case was a separate department, which can be removed. UPDATE: Essentials returned the drive, I bought two Western Digital Elements 1TB External Hard Drives, exactly what is needed in the first place. . . external hard drive, built in the shell and is just what it should be: a hard drive. O “fancy” value of the software built into devices work erred in this role. I highly recommend Western Digital Elements external hard drive for storage space!
