The station is the coolest (and smallest) of all WD drives, and all their notebooks are very reliable. Now two quick questions to many to mention:
1 cable. Everybody relax, it is a standard micro-USB. Yes, I wish it was a standard USB, but it’s not a big deal, micro USB is quickly becoming the norm, too.
2 CD-ROM software. Even the Amazon site solutions can eliminate this nonsense. I have no idea what WD did – I get “pre-installed” thing for beginners, but not delete? In any case, I have what any reasonable person would do to WD’s site to drive, check the knowledge base, and guess what, the answers are there (including the simpler solutions that are posted on Amazon). Also worth mentioning is this little note: “In the future, VCD WD offers a removal tool for those users who do not want to use the software.”. GOOD. Better late than never, I think.
In short: do not let the cable / soft thing on the road. It is the best high capacity portable drive in the world. I have 15 of these, like the first generation 40 GB, and they are all very good.

After months of negotiation, and Western Digital tries to work in the design of two serious lack of that status, and has suffered badly wrong to try to solve the problem (I still No functional … The new shipments in February 2010 the same problem!), I reduced the rating of the user’s 5.2 stars. 1 Bloatware / crapware-down (but see February 15 update)
UN tried WD-generalize new My Passport drives by SE forcing the application (and unpleasant chain of events in Windows), each link of the SE is a new series of high-capacity external drives (750 GB and 1 TB version of its popular 2. 5 “external drives). Let us be honest be! WD is a high-end manufacturer.’s product does not Automatic ApS, which treat the customers as sheep to distinguish (and the idiots!). Passport SE Series sufficiently distinctive style, hardware encryption, the value and durability. No need to meet the crapware.

I bought this drive yesterday, and I will return today. The reasons? There are two main types. As the first reviewer, I regret that Western Digital bundles to drive their add-in. The first thing I did was the platform of this status by Disk Utility from my macbook. Run again, but were not involved in the software on your desktop. I keep throwing and became detached from the station. When you switch to the computer, the software automatically and reported that there was no longer able to partition the system to accept, and I must ensure that the drive is formatted correctly. I formatted with the FAT32 so I could use it between Mac and PC. Each time you take it on a computer, the New Hardware Wizard pops up and tells me that the drive is improperly installed and can not work. So far it does not work, but I’m not going to go through this every time I use this drive on my PC. I know that maybe I could format the drive in a different way, or delete the contents of your Mac to use more depth, but brings me to my second argument: the USB connection is terrible. WD seems to have disappeared more recently micro-USB connector. This is in addition to all other USB cables obsolete, the connector does not continue to exist. Every small business and you lose the connection to the computer (which means that, even if the entire automated software and the hardware wizard nonsense again). I think not very wearable.

This unit is involved in a software component that can not be removed. I paid the hard disk, not the software. The partition is a virtual CD and tries to install itself every time you connect to your computer. You can not delete this partition. A total waste of hard disk space and a waste of time always telling to install. Almost as bad as the USB cable is your own one. If you have another USB cable, you want to use (if it involves very short), forget it. This device is a progressive step back in technology. It is difficult to propose how something as simple as an external USB hard drive can be ruined, Western Digital, but somehow managed to do it.

My line of work requires a lot of disk I keep my data. I have about 20 GB of software or files, but to 450-600 GB vmdk virtual disks to the list of our customers to keep VMWare environments, so the last 2 years I have built more than 15 external USB drives an average size of 500GB. I need an external USB drive, because I travel a lot and often use these pictures when I click the battery. I have an end state so bad that my laptop lid is covered with Velcro, so that most of these stations can pay to stay in my work environment. . . . .
